Please undertake the following actions stepwise.

1.  Go to “Run” search box by Clicking the Windows Key + R key.
2. Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
3. The Group Policy Editor window will open.
4. Go to ‘Computer Configuration’ > ‘Administrative Templates’ > ‘Windows Components’ > ‘Windows Update’.
5. In the right panel search for ‘Configure Automatic Updates’ and if it says that it is ‘Not Configured’ then go to Command prompt.
6. In the Windows Search box type ‘Cmd’ and run ‘Cmd.exe’ as Administrator by right clicking on it and selecting as Administrator.
7. In the Command Prompt window type gpupdate /force to update your group policy.
8. Restart your system and check your windows update. It should work now and update windows normally. If the problem is still not resolved, go to next steps.
9.  Download the “Windows Update Troubleshooter Tool” from Microsoft.

10. Run as administrator and select ‘Windows Update’ option.

11. The Windows Update Troubleshooter will attempt to fix the problem.
12. Restart your system and check whether Windows Update is working normally or not.

13. This time Windows update problem is supposed to be resolved. If still, the problem persists try proceeding to follow steps. These steps will additionally also install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, while resolving the windows update error 0x80070057.

Installing Anniversary Update

  • Open Settings.
  • Click on Update & security.
